Taking insulin for diabetes
Controlling your blood sugar is one of the most important parts of taking care of your diabetes. When you have type 2 diabetes, your body may not make enough insulin. Insulin is important because it lowers your blood sugar so that your body can use it for energy.
You may have heard bad things about insulin but don’t be afraid to take it. Insulin will not hurt you or cause problems when you take it as your doctor tells you.
When giving yourself an insulin shot:
- Your belly works the best
- Don’t put the shot into your muscle
- Don’t give the shot into scars or a place with an infection
- Use a different place for each shot
- Do not rub the place after the shot
